Who We Are
Kindred Midwifery & Wellness was born out of a desire to provide more meaningful care to our clients than is traditionally accommodated in corporate, medical practice models. Our person-centered practice model allows as much time as is needed for each client. Friends for years, Adrienne and Jenna have been privileged to work together for nearly an entire decade.
Adrienne Burke Miller, WHNP, CNM
I was born and raised in Georgia before moving to a small town in Montana during my high school years. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Minot State University in North Dakota. I then moved to Arizona to escape the freezing cold and enjoy the warm, sunny weather. I began my nursing career in Labor and Delivery (L&D) and absolutely fell in love with caring for moms and babies. Through sixteen years as a hospital labor nurse, I worked with many healthcare providers, including midwives.
Â
After having my own children and experiencing the wonder of pregnancy and birth, I decided to advance my career to provide more for my clients. I wanted to be able to support childbearing families in the same way that I was cared for, by amazing providers. With the encouragement and support of many colleagues and friends, I earned a Master of Science in Nurse Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University in 2018 and a Women’s Healthcare Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) degree in 2019.Â
Â
While I love the excitement of birth, I also love being able to do more, providing care throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and gynecological services throughout the lifespan as well. Empowering clients to be advocates for themselves through evidence-based practice is important and vital to providing quality care.
Â
I have a busy home life with my husband and two young sons. I enjoy countless hours of fun watching both my boys play club baseball. The chaos continues at home with our two cats, two French Bulldogs, and one mini potbelly pig. I love family time, going to the lake, and finding new restaurants to savor.Â
Jenna Sander, APRN, CNM
Born and raised in rural western Kansas, my journey into Nurse-Midwifery began when I was young, naive, and pregnant with my first son. The care I received was far from evidence-based. My provider did not offer education and promoted medically unnecessary interventions for my low-risk pregnancy, without discussion of risks and benefits. In turn, I experienced a medical cascade of interventions. Obstetrical violence and birth trauma are very real problems within maternity care. These concerns are often disregarded, because there may be no physical scars or "proof" of the trauma. It took me about a year to fully understand my birth trauma, and through that process, I was guided to pursue a meaningful career in which I could provide safe, whole-person care. With my second son, I sought out midwifery care, and had a safe, empowering birth-center birth.Â
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University, and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas Medical Center, and I have been practicing midwifery since 2013, and in Arizona since 2014. Through my career, I have cared for families in a variety of settings: a birth center and rural hospital facility in Kansas and several hospitals in the East Valley of Phoenix, all the while promoting physiologic birth.
My third son was born after I had been practicing midwifery for several years, and I was cared for by wonderful friends and colleagues, Adrienne included!
As a provider, every interaction is an opportunity for me to provide health education and empower clients to make safe, evidence-based decisions regarding their care. I recognize the importance of a trusting relationship between providers and clients.Â
At home, I am supported by my husband, three sons, and several canine kids. I enjoy cooking & baking, skiing, jogging, reading, and all of my boys' activities and sports.
